Comrade Yunyi:
Your letter of August 14 \[2\] has been received. I am greatly relieved that your health is improving. I agree with your approach, namely, to focus on recuperation, and, as your physical condition permits, to read a certain amount of documents and attend some meetings of the Party and state organs. In preparation for the Sixth Plenary Session, I have had no time these days; we shall discuss matters at a suitable time when I am somewhat freer.
Wishing you health and well-being.

**Notes**
\[1\] Zhang Yunyi, after the founding of the People’s Republic, served as Second Secretary of the South China Sub-Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Provincial Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central-South Military and Administrative Committee, and member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. At this time, he was recuperating due to illness.
\[2\] Refers to Zhang Yunyi’s letter to Mao Zedong dated August 14, 1955. The letter stated: It has been nearly five years since I began recuperating due to illness. Throughout this long process, I have deeply relied on the concern and care of the Chairman and other comrades. Now my health has basically recovered. In March, I came to Beijing to attend the Party’s National Conference, which greatly educated me; recently, I also attended the Second Session of the First National People’s Congress, where the First Five-Year Plan was adopted, making me increasingly excited. After a long illness, and due to age, though my physical and mental strength are not what they once were, I should dedicate what strength I have to the great cause of the Party and the people, to fulfill my original aspiration and do my duty. According to the doctor’s opinion and my physical condition, it is more suitable for me to recuperate while also engaging in a certain amount of work for a set period. In addition to physical exercise every day, I can also study Party documents and sometimes attend Party meetings and meetings of the NPC Standing Committee, etc. I feel this is beneficial to both my physical and mental health and allows me to fulfill some responsibility in my work. If the Chairman has free time and could summon me to listen to your instructions in person, I could also report my situation face to face, which is my utmost hope.
