Telegram on the Tenth Anniversary of Liberation
(7 May 1955)

Comrade A. Zápotocký, President of the Czechoslovak Republic,
Comrade Z. Fierlinger, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Republic,
Comrade V. Široký, Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Republic:

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the liberation of the Czechoslovak people, the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese people extend heartfelt and warm congratulations to the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Czechoslovak people.

Over the past ten years, under the correct leadership of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic, and with the selfless assistance of the Soviet Union, the Czechoslovak people have achieved brilliant successes in consolidating the people’s democratic state power and building the foundations of socialism. These successes have strengthened the forces of the world peace, democracy, and socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union, and are a great inspiration to the Chinese people, who are engaged in socialist construction.

At present, the imperialist aggressive blocs are striving to implement the Paris Agreements and actively reviving German militarism, confronting the people of Europe and the entire world with the threat of a new war. The Chinese people fully support all necessary measures taken by the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, and other peace-loving countries and peoples of Europe to safeguard their own security and European peace, and are deeply convinced that the powerful peace, democracy, and socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union, with the sympathy and support of the people of the whole world, will certainly be able to smash the imperialist war plans.

May the Czechoslovak people achieve still greater victories in the cause of socialist construction and the defence of peace!

Mao Zedong
President of the People’s Republic of China

Liu Shaoqi
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China

Zhou Enlai
Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China
