Letter to Chen Jiageng[1]

Mr. Jiageng:
I have received your successive gracious letters concerning the two matters of grain and the airfield[2], both of which have been forwarded to the relevant organs for study. I am deeply moved by your kind intentions, and I hereby respectfully reply.

[1] Chen Jiageng, then serving as a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
[2] This refers to the suggestions made by Chen Jiageng in his letters to Mao Zedong: that the whole country consume coarser "92" and "95" rice (i.e., for every 100 jin of husked brown rice, after further processing, 92 jin or 95 jin of rice is obtained) in order to save grain; and that the Qingyang Airfield in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, be rebuilt to the south of the Qingyang Highway.
