Letter to Huang Yanpei[1]
(April 29, 1955)

Mr. Renzhi:
Your kind letters of April 25 and 26[2] have been received and read. Many thanks!
The grain problem will remain acute for the coming month, but after June it should ease somewhat.
Wishing you good health!

Mao Zedong
April 29

[1] Huang Yanpei, courtesy name Renzhi, was then Chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
[2] Refers to two letters from Huang Yanpei to Mao Zedong dated April 25 and April 26, 1955.
The letter of April 25 reported on the situation at the National Congress of the China Democratic National Construction Association.
The letter of April 26 once again reflected to Mao Zedong the rural grain problem, stating: According to recent letters from the people received from various places, the most serious issue remains the rural grain problem. I selected five letters of relatively high reliability and sent them to Comrade Chen Yun, and had a lengthy discussion with him lasting four hours. The gravity of this problem also lies in the fact that this moment coincides with the "busy farming season"; whether there will be a man-made bumper harvest or crop failure will be determined at this juncture, and it seems necessary to gain a correct understanding and then handle the matter in a timely fashion.
