Mao Zedong

Having walked into the masses of the people, she has become a person of aspiration.

This piece consists of Mao Zedong’s annotations on "A Self-Account" by Jin Yanying, sister of Aisin Gioro Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Among them:
The first annotation was written on a summary of the "Self-Account" provided by Mao Zedong’s office staff; the second was written on the last page of the "Self-Account." After the liberation of Northeast China, Jin Yanying once made a living by running a cigarette stall in Tonghua. She came to Beijing in 1949 and later participated in neighborhood work. The "Self-Account" she wrote was forwarded to Mao Zedong by Zhang Shizhao.
In January 1955, Zhang Shizhao wrote in a letter to Mao Zedong: "I hereby present a self-account booklet by a Manchu woman, for Your Excellency to peruse as a 'Taiping Guangji' [2], to help dispel concerns in your spare moments," and requested that Jin Yanying be "given preferential encouragement and support."
