Telegrams of Congratulations from Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai on the Thirty-Seventh Anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917 (November 6, 1954) To Comrade Kliment Voroshilov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; to Comrade Georgy Malenkov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and to Comrade Vyacheslav Molotov, First Vice-Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics:

On the occasion of the thirty-seventh anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, on behalf of the Chinese people and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, we hereby extend our heartfelt and warmest congratulations to you and, through you, to the great Soviet people and the Soviet Government.

Over the past thirty-seven years, the brilliant achievements attained by the great Soviet people in the cause of building a communist society have played an immeasurable role in advancing human progress and safeguarding world peace. The progressive peoples of the entire world have rejoiced at the historic victories won by the Soviet people and have regarded the great Soviet Union as a beacon guiding them forward.

In recent years, the forces for the defense of peace throughout the world, with the Soviet Union in the lead, have grown stronger and more dynamic. An ever-increasing number of people are advocating peaceful coexistence. The schemes of German and Japanese militarism to revive war continue to meet with resolute opposition from the German and Japanese peoples, as well as from the peoples of all nations. A widespread struggle is under way against the formation of aggressive military blocs, for the prohibition of atomic and hydrogen weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, and for general disarmament. All of this leads us to believe that so long as the peoples of all countries take up the cause of maintaining peace and persevere in it to the very end, world peace can be preserved and consolidated.

The great alliance between China and the Soviet Union is playing an increasingly prominent and immensely significant role in promoting the common prosperity of the two countries and in safeguarding peace in the Far East and throughout the world. The recent talks between the Soviet government delegation headed by Comrade Nikita Khrushchev and the Chinese government mark a new stage in the great friendship between our two peoples and once again demonstrate the unanimous aspirations and common interests of the eight hundred million people of China and the Soviet Union. This friendship will accelerate the socialist construction of the Chinese people and further strengthen peace in the Far East and the world.

Long live the great Union of Soviet Socialist Republics! Long live the eternal, unbreakable friendship between China and the Soviet Union!
