Reply on the Occasion of the Presentation of Credentials
(September 22, 1954)

Comrade Ambassador:

It gives me great pleasure to accept the credentials you have presented, by which the Presidium of the People’s Republic of Hungary has appointed you as its Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, and I express my sincere gratitude for your congratulations.

Over the past nine years, under the leadership of the Hungarian Working People’s Party, the Hungarian people have successfully carried forward socialist construction, fundamentally transforming the face of their country. The Chinese people have followed with joy and admiration the tremendous achievements made by our fraternal Hungarian people in their national development efforts.

During the past five years, the friendly relations between the peoples of China and Hungary have yielded significant results through close cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields. The continuous development of these fraternal and friendly ties will not only further enhance the prosperity of both China and Hungary and strengthen the friendship between our two peoples, but will also reinforce the forces of world peace and democracy, with the great Soviet Union at their head.

Comrade Ambassador, I warmly welcome you to your post as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Hungary to the People’s Republic of China. In your work to further develop and consolidate the friendly cooperation between China and Hungary, you may count on my full support and that of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

I wish you every success in your mission.
