Mr. Minister:
Reply Delivered Upon the Presentation of Credentials
(September 13, 1954)

It gives me great pleasure to accept the credentials tendered by Your Excellency on behalf of the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation, and I wish to express my gratitude for the congratulations conveyed by the President of the Swiss Federal Council to the people of the People’s Republic of China and to myself personally.

Over the past five years, the friendly relations between China and Switzerland have been further strengthened on the basis of peaceful coexistence. During the Geneva Conference, the delegation of the People’s Republic of China received hospitality and assistance from the Swiss Government and people, and I take this opportunity to extend my thanks. In the future, economic ties and cultural exchanges between our two countries will be further enhanced, which will not only promote the friendship between our peoples but also contribute to the consolidation of world peace.

I warmly welcome Your Excellency to your post as Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the People’s Republic of China. In your efforts to strengthen the friendly cooperation between China and Switzerland, you may rest assured of my support and that of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

I sincerely wish Your Excellency every success in your mission, and I extend my best wishes for the happiness of the people of your country and for the good health of its head of state.
