Your gracious letter of May 1 and the twelve volumes of your magnum opus [2] have been received, for which I am deeply grateful! Your patriotic fervor, overflowing between the lines, fully attests to your vigorous progress. Your magnum opus awaits my unhurried study at leisure. Respectfully replying.

[1] Huang Yanpei, courtesy name Renzhi, was then Chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association and Vice Premier of the Government Administration Council.
[2] "Gracious letter" refers to Huang Yanpei's letter to Mao Zedong dated May 1, 1954, in which he discussed his impressions from participating in the review of the "May Day" mass parade, his understanding of the Chinese revolution, and his study of the first volume of *Das Kapital*. "Magnum opus" refers to Huang Yanpei's book *Reading the First Volume of Das Kapital*.
