Letter to the Panchen Erdeni
(March 10, 1953)

Mr. Panchen Erdeni:
Thank you for your letter and gifts dated August 3, 1952 (the 12th day of the 6th month in the Guichen year).

Since your return to Tibet, you have diligently undertaken much work to foster unity between the Han and Tibetan peoples as well as unity within Tibet itself, and have also labored for the welfare of the local monastic and lay populace. This fills me with great comfort and joy. On the foundation of patriotism and unity, I am confident that our friendship will steadily consolidate and develop with each passing day.

Enclosed with this letter are: two loudspeakers with four attached horns, one electric turntable, twelve phonograph records, three bolts of yellow satin, one piece of Changbai Mountain ginseng, and one fur-lined leather garment.

Wishing you good health!

Mao Zedong
