Notes [1] This commentary was written on a report dated February 27, 1953, from Fu Lianxi, Vice Minister of Health of the Central People’s Government, to Mao Zedong concerning the health condition of Chen Yun, Vice Premier of the Administrative Council. The report stated: “Although Chen Yun’s illness has shown improvement since his hospitalization, Soviet physicians believe that he requires a relatively long period of convalescence—four to six months—and recommend that he go to the Soviet Union for treatment, which I also consider advisable.” [ ] Yang Shangkun was at that time Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.
