Commentary by Mao Zedong on Xiao Xiangrong’s Summary of the Relations Between the Various Military Departments and the Soviet Advisors (January 1, 1953) I. This summary [2] is very good; it is to be circulated to all units within the military system that have Soviet advisors. We should continue to maintain unity with all advisors, study earnestly from them, and never become complacent or self-satisfied. It is imperative that we fully assimilate all advanced experience from the Soviet Union, thereby overcoming the backwardness of our armed forces and building them into the second-best modernized army in the world, so as to ensure that we can confidently defeat any aggression by imperialist forces in the future. All those who have not yet submitted their review reports should do so without delay. Thereafter, reviews are to be conducted twice a year. In 1953, one review shall be held in July. This document is also being forwarded to relevant units in the government system that have Soviet advisors for their reference. Mao Zedong January 1, 1953 Printed from the manuscript.
