Refers to the telegram sent by the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on December 11, 1952, to the United Front Work Department of the East China Bureau regarding the investigation of temple destruction in southern Jiangsu. The telegram stated that some Buddhists in Jiangsu reported:
"In Pudong, since the spring of this year, the trend of demolishing statues and destroying temples has surged dramatically, with several renowned temples and nunneries completely wrecked"; the Jingxin Nunnery in Punan was also utterly destroyed without a trace. The telegram requested the United Front Work Department of the East China Bureau to ascertain the truth, and if the situation was confirmed, to immediately rectify it and take appropriate measures, while also paying attention to whether similar incidents were occurring in other areas.
