Notes [1] On December 9, 1952, the CPC Central Committee Propaganda Department stated in its report that, with regard to the establishment of a School for Marxist Teachers and a Translation and Compilation Institute for the Works of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin, it was specially seeking the Central Committee’s instructions on two matters: First, concerning the selection of personnel in charge, it proposed that Huang Songling be appointed as the principal of the School for Marxist Teachers and immediately assume responsibility for preparing for its founding, striving to open by March of next year if possible. The preparatory work would be guided jointly by Kefeng and An Ziwen, and after the school’s establishment, it would continue to be led by Kefeng. As for the Translation and Compilation Institute, it was proposed that Shi Zhe serve as director, with Chen Changhao and Jiang Chunfang as deputy directors. However, whether the change in Chen Changhao’s duties should be postponed until Liu Shaoqi’s return from abroad remained to be decided; the Central Committee was requested to provide guidance. The work of the Translation and Compilation Institute would also be under Kefeng’s leadership. Second, whether the names of these two institutions should be definitively set as the School for Marxist Teachers and the Translation and Compilation Institute for the Works of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin was likewise to be decided by the Central Committee.

[2] Chen Changhao was at that time vice dean of academic affairs at the Marx–Lenin Institute.
