Letter to Mao Aigui [l]
(October 10, 1952)
Mr. Mao Aigui:
I received your letter some time ago. It has been many years since we last met, and I am very pleased to hear from you. I am also very happy to learn that you would like your son to take up a casual, flexible job. You may apply for this through the relevant local authorities.

Mao Aigui was Mao Zedong’s neighbor and a paternal uncle by kinship. Not long after, Mao Aigui’s son, Mao Zelin, was arranged by the organization department to work at the Zhuzhou Sugar, Tobacco, and Liquor Company, and was later transferred back to the Shaoshan Grain Bureau. This remains the only instance on record of Mao Zedong personally writing a reply recommending a relative or friend for employment to the local government.
