The actual date of this inscription is not known. It was reported and released in RM)
on Aug. 3, 1953. The RMRB news article that reported on the commencement of wa
on this monument, which subsequently has stood in the southern section of Tix
Square in Beijing, also carried a description of the shape, style, and size of
ment. It also reported that construction commenced on the day of the twenty-first

versary of the founding of the Chinese Communist armed forces (i.e.. August 1)
is an abbreviation of Mao's earlier inscription for the “people's heroes.” (See)
