Comments by Mao Zedong on Wu Han’s [1] Second Request to Join the Party [2] (July 22, 1952) In my view, it would still be more appropriate for him to refrain from joining the Party for the time being. Mao Zedong Printed on July 22 based on his handwritten draft. Notes [1] Wu Han was then Vice Mayor of Beijing and Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League. [2] Refers to Wu Han’s letter dated July 21, 1952, addressed to Mao Zedong, requesting once again to be admitted into the Communist Party of China. In the letter, he mentioned that on January 3, 1949, he had previously submitted a request to join the Party to Mao Zedong, to which Mao replied on January 14 of the same year: “We approve your request. However, the timing of its implementation remains to be considered; please consult Comrade Zhou Enlai for further details.” After July 1952, Wu Han continued to make repeated requests to join the Party. In March 1957, he was formally approved by the CPC Central Committee to become a member of the Communist Party of China.
