Comments on the US Invitation to Indonesia and Four Other Countries to Inspect the US Military’s Koje Island POW Camp [1]
(June 21, 1952)
Comrade Zhou Enlai:
In addition to making representations to the embassies in Beijing, it seems appropriate to also issue instructions to our ambassadors and ministers in the five countries.

--- Notes

[1] This comment was written on a report sent by Zhong Qingfa, China’s chargé d’affaires in Indonesia, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 18, 1952. Zhong’s report stated that the formal US invitation for Indonesia to inspect the US military’s Koje Island POW camp was delivered to the Indonesian government on June 14. On June 18, during a discussion on trade issues, the Indonesian foreign minister inquired about the Chinese government’s reaction to the US invitation to Indonesia and four other countries to inspect the camp. Zhong therefore suggested that the Chinese government issue a solemn statement on the matter.
