Notes by Mao Zedong on Liu Lantao’s Report Concerning the Capture of “Tigers” by the Logistics Department of the North China Military Region (February 10, 1952) Comrades: The fact that as many as two hundred—or even more—big tigers and over eight hundred medium- and small-sized tigers can be found among the personnel of the Logistics Department of the North China Military Region alone serves as a profound lesson for those organs or departments that have underestimated the extent of large-scale corruption and accordingly set excessively low targets for the anti-corruption campaign, particularly in certain military regions. I earnestly request all comrades to use such concrete examples to educate their cadres and to strengthen their resolve in the fight against corruption. Major corrupt officials are enemies of the people; they are no longer our comrades or friends. Therefore, we must resolutely, thoroughly, and completely root them out without the slightest trace of attachment or pity. Mao Zedong February 10 Printed from the manuscript. Note [1] Liu Lantao was at the time the Deputy Political Commissar of the North China Military Region of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
