Central Committee Decision on Rao Shushi’s Sick Leave and
Chen Yi Acting in All Posts
(February 2, 1952)
To the East China Bureau, and Comrades Chen Yi and Su Yu:

We have received Comrade Su Yu’s telegram of February 1, 14:00 hours, and learned that Comrade Rao Shushi is seriously ill and must rest. The Central Committee has decided that Comrade Rao Shushi shall immediately begin a two-month period of rest, with Comrade Chen Yi acting in all posts, and Comrade Tan Zhenlin, under the guidance of Comrade Chen Yi, taking charge of the day-to-day practical work of the East China Bureau and the East China Military and Administrative Committee. Regarding the location of Comrade Rao Shushi’s rest, we believe he must leave Shanghai, and it would be best for him to come to Beijing. Comrade Su Yu is requested to go to Shanghai again to discuss and decide the matter face-to-face with Comrade Shushi, and to accompany Comrade Shushi by train to Beijing.
