Telegram from the CPC Central Committee Regarding the Rectification of Errors Committed by Leaders of the Wuhan Municipal Government in Suppressing Democracy and Attacking Public Criticism (December 25, 1951) To the Central-South Bureau and the Wuhan Municipal Committee: We have received the telegram of December 24 [1]. (1) It is entirely necessary to remove Yi Jiguang [2] from his post and to have Comrade Zhang Pinghua [3], representing the Municipal Committee, offer a self-criticism, admitting that he had improperly recommended him. (2) Since Mayor Wu Defeng has either engaged in or supported acts of suppressing democracy and attacking public criticism, thereby exerting an extremely adverse influence on the masses, he should naturally present a self-criticism at the People’s Representative Assembly and make it public. The CPC Central Committee December 25, 11:30 p.m. Based on Mao Zedong’s manuscript for publication.
