Letter to Mao Yuju, Wen Meijie, and Zhang Youcheng[1]

(September 4, 1951)

Yuju, Meiqing,[2] and Youcheng, my three brothers:

I have received the letter from brothers Meijie and Youcheng expressing your wish to visit Beijing. I think it is feasible. If brother Yuju is also interested, he may come along for the visit as well. The visitors shall be limited to the three of you; no others should come. You may stay in Beijing for approximately one to two months; a longer stay would be inconvenient. If you three brothers agree to these points, you may then travel to Beijing together with the comrade I am sending here.

I wish you good health!

**Notes**

[1] Zhang Youcheng (1886–1953), a native of Xinlian Village, Daping Township, Shaoshan City, Hunan Province, was a carpenter. He was a friend of Mao Zedong from his youth. During the Great Revolution, he participated in the peasant movement in Shaoshan. In September 1951, Mao Zedong invited his childhood friend Zhang Youcheng (first from left), his cousin Mao Yuju (second from left), and his maternal cousin Wen Meiqing (first from right) to Beijing to reminisce about old times.

[2] The original text has "梅？青" (Mei?qing), which appears to be a typographical error or an unclear character. Based on the context and the recipient list, this should be "梅清" (Meiqing), referring to Wen Meiqing.
