In his letter to Zhou Enlai dated September 7, 1951, Ma Yinchu stated: Among Peking University professors, twelve professors with new thinking, including Vice President Tang Yongtong, Dean of Academic Affairs Zhang Jingyue, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs Yang Hui, and Secretary-General Zhang Longxiang, responding to Premier Zhou's call for ideological reform, initiated a political study movement for Peking University faculty. "They decided to earnestly invite Chairman Mao, Vice Chairman Liu, Premier Zhou, Commander-in-Chief Zhu, Elder Dong Biwu, Director Chen Yun, Mayor Peng Zhen, Vice Minister Qian Junrui, Deputy Director Lu Dingyi, and Mr. Hu Qiaomu to be their teachers. I am entrusted to write to you, requesting you to convey this invitation to the above ten teachers."
