Both of these dates are dates of release. We have no definite knowledge of the
date of the writing of this inscription, but we believe it to be before August 5, 1951)
Revolutionary bases (genjudi) refer to geographic areas under Communist cont
before 1949 in which the military and political activities and policies of the CPC W
launched before Liberation. No written document may be cited to define why some
these bases were referred to as old. Generally speaking, old revolutionary bases 1%
to areas where the CPC operated in the 1920s and 1930s. Jinggangshan (in Jiang
and Yanan (in Shaanxi) are the most famous ones, See Faling huibian, 1952, pp. 4?
