Regarding the Commemorative Day of the Victory in the War of Resistance

Following Mao Zedong’s instruction, on August 2, 1951, Hu Qiaomu drafted a telegram on behalf of the Central Committee to the Northeast Bureau and all central bureaus, sub-bureaus, military regions, to be forwarded to all provincial, municipal, and regional Party committees and the Political Department of the Volunteer Army. The telegram stated: “It is agreed that September 3 shall be designated as the nationwide unified day for commemorating the victory over Japan. Except that the Northeast should change to celebrating its liberation on this day, the military and civilians nationwide as well as newspapers shall all commemorate the victory of the eight-year War of Resistance on this day.”
