Approval may be granted. However, emphasis should be placed on education and explanation; the rest can be handled at a measured pace.

This annotation was written on the report submitted by the Propaganda Department of the North China Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to the Central Propaganda Department on July 2, 1951. The report from the Propaganda Department of the North China Bureau stated: "The Hebei Provincial Party Committee has put forward opinions on the handling of existing memorials to Wu Xun and has requested instructions from the North China Bureau. We are of the opinion that, first, extensive education should be conducted among the masses to resolve the issue ideologically, and then different situations should be handled accordingly. (1) For all privately-run Wu Xun schools (such as the Beijing Wu Xun Primary School), when the discussion on Wu Xun and the film *The Story of Wu Xun* gradually matures, they may themselves propose a name change and reorganization, which we will agree to and approve, and they will remain private schools. For all public Wu Xun schools (such as the Pingyuan Wu Xun Normal School), after the thinking of the faculty, staff, and students has been clarified, the school name shall be changed. (It has already been changed to the Provincial Tangyi Normal School.) (2) Regarding inscriptions, buildings, and other objects commemorating Wu Xun, after educating the masses to clearly recognize Wu Xun, the masses shall voluntarily dismantle them. Stone carvings, statues, pillars, and steles shall be removed, portraits shall be obliterated, and the Wu Xun Memorial Forest shall be renamed. However, we believe that Wu Xun's tomb and tombstone should be preserved."
