Telegram to Peng Dehuai [1] on the Question of Equipping with Anti-Tank Weapons (June 1, 1951) Comrade Dehuai: There is another matter, namely the issue of our army’s anti-tank weapons and anti-tank units.
I have heard that the enemy has recently increased the number of its tanks.
Our forces must strengthen our anti-tank armament to such an extent that we can effectively neutralize the enemy’s large tank formations, thereby curbing the enemy’s tank offensive and inflicting heavy casualties on its infantry.
What are your views on this?
Are the anti-tank weapons currently in our arsenal adequate?
Which types of weapons would be most effective?
And should each regiment be equipped with a dedicated anti-tank company?
Please let me know.
