On May 28, 1951, Mao Zedong personally wrote the inscription "Study well and make progress every day" for Chen Yongkang, a first-grade student at Jinmen Primary School in Suzhou, and presented a silk banner to Chen Yongkang. At the same time, he issued the call of "Study well and make progress every day" to the youth nationwide.

On June 1, 1951, representatives of the Young Pioneers presented gifts to Mao Zedong.
