Your esteemed letter of January 14 has been received and read with respect. I deeply appreciate your kind sentiments. I hope you will continue to manage your hotel business in your present location; there is no need to come to the capital. I respectfully offer this reply.

[1] Hu Nanpu (1881–1953), a native of Shaoyuan Village, Shaoshan Township, Shaoshan City, Hunan Province. He was a classmate of Mao Zedong at a private school. At the time, he was running an inn in Yunnan. In 1952, he returned to Shaoshan to reside. On November 15, 1951, Mao Zedong gifted him 5 million renminbi (equivalent to 500 new renminbi issued on March 1, 1955) for his relocation.
