Comment on the Report on Destroying Yiguandao
(February 28, 1951)

To all central bureaus, and forward to their subordinate sub-bureaus, provincial party committees, party committees of large and medium-sized cities, and district party committees:

Regarding the destruction of Yiguandao, Beijing’s experience has been very successful. First, long-term reconnaissance and planning were carried out, rather than acting in haste; second, when the time came, propaganda was conducted among the masses to isolate the leaders of the sect; third, exhibitions were arranged; fourth, donations to the sect were refunded; fifth, this was separated from the struggle against superstition. The above points may serve as reference for all localities. Yiguandao has millions of deceived and backward followers across the country. In all provinces where large numbers of Yiguandao exist, the Party must adopt a cautious and appropriate attitude in handling this issue.
