Telegram to Deng Xiaoping〔1〕 on the Experience Gained by the Yushu Prefectural Committee in Conducting Medical Trade Work (January 30, 1951) Comrade Xiaoping: I wonder whether the Northwest Bureau has already forwarded this document〔2〕 to you.
If not, please take a look at it and kindly convey to the comrades of the 18th Army that they should pay attention to the Yushu experience. … Mao Zedong January 30 Printed from the manuscript.
Notes [1] Deng Xiaoping was then First Secretary of the CPC Southwest Bureau and Political Commissar of the Southwest Military Region of the People’s Liberation Army. [2] Refers to the report submitted by the Yushu Prefectural Committee of the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee to the Northwest Bureau on January 12, 1951, concerning the conduct of medical trade work in ethnic-minority areas.
The Qinghai Provincial Committee pointed out that the Yushu Prefectural Committee’s report demonstrates that, in Qinghai’s ethnic-minority regions, engaging in medical trade is an excellent method for getting close to and maintaining contact with the masses, and that such work should be given even greater emphasis in the future.
