Commentary on the Report from the Sunan Regional Party Committee Regarding the Convening of a Symposium with the Democratic Parties (January 25, 1951) Comrade Luo Mai [1]: This document [2] may be distributed to all comrades attending the United Front Work Conference, and they should also take it back for further circulation among more comrades. All United Front Work Departments of the Central Bureaus, Sub-bureaus, and provincial, municipal, and regional party committees are hereby instructed to convene regular meetings or ad hoc sessions with representatives of the various democratic parties whenever important matters arise, just as was done in the recent Sunan meeting. Following each such meeting, a report must be submitted to the CPC Central United Front Work Department; failure to hold meetings or submit reports will be regarded as dereliction of duty. Mao Zedong January 25th Printed from the manuscript. Notes [1] Luo Mai refers to Li Weihan, who at that time served as Minister of the CPC Central United Front Work Department. [2] This refers to the report dated December 26, 1950, from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Sunan Regional Committee to the East China Bureau and its United Front Work Department, detailing the first symposium with the democratic parties held in the Sunan region. The symposium convened by the Sunan Regional Party Committee’s United Front Work Department facilitated an exchange of views on the relationship between the CPC and the democratic parties, as well as on the work of these parties, thereby achieving ideological consensus, strengthening mutual solidarity, and leaving all participating representatives highly satisfied.
