Telegram to Deng Xiaoping [1] Concerning the Qinghai Cavalry Brigade’s Cooperation with the 18th Army in Entering Tibet (January 14, 1951) Comrade Xiaoping: Have you seen Zhang Zongshun’s [2] telegram of January 9?
He proposes that the Qinghai Cavalry Brigade, consisting of 750 men and 1,000 horses and carrying one and a half months’ worth of rations, should accompany the 18th Army into Tibet.
After reaching Lhasa and Shigatse, the responsibility for all supply matters would fall entirely to your command.
Please consider this proposal and inform me promptly whether you agree.
