Approving the Coastal Defense Deployment for Hainan Island (December 7, 1950)  Deng, Tan, and Zhao [2]: The report transmitted on December 4 regarding Guangdong’s coastal defense deployment for Hainan Island and its operational plan in preparation for enemy invasion is correct. You are hereby instructed to immediately forward these directives to the Guangdong Military Region for implementation.  Issued by the Central Military Commission on December 7, based on Mao Zedong’s handwritten draft.  Notes  [1] Deng Zihui was at the time the Second Political Commissar of the Central-South Military Region of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.  [2] Tan refers to Tan Zheng, who was then the Third Political Commissar of the Central-South Military Region of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. Zhao refers to Zhao Erlu, who served as Chief of Staff of the same military region.
