CCP Central Military Commission Telegram to Peng Dehuai [1] et al. Celebrating the Ninth Corps’ Two Major Victories (December 2, 1950)

To Peng and Deng [2], with copy to Song and Qin [3]:

(1) We congratulate the Ninth Corps on its two great victories in annihilating the enemy.

(2) According to a report from Xinhua News Agency’s correspondent in Tonghua, on the afternoon of the 30th, enemy troops occupying Huishan Town were loading up supplies and appeared to be preparing to withdraw. Meanwhile, the enemy garrison in Xinjiapo Town, west of Huishan, had already withdrawn after noon on the 30th. It is said that the force which had entered Huishan Town numbered approximately 2,500 men. The U.S. 7th Division seems to have already withdrawn from Huishan Town. One division of our 26th Army stationed at Houchang, apart from leaving a small detachment there to maintain an easternward alert, may now bring its main body south to engage in combat.

(3) In addition to intensifying efforts to wipe out the encircled enemy, our Ninth Corps should also prepare to fight against two Rhee Syngman divisions and a portion of the U.S. 3rd Division, which are certain to be sent as reinforcements.

Issued by the CCP Central Military Commission at 2400 hours on December 2, based on Mao Zedong’s handwritten draft. Included in Selected Military Works of Mao Zedong (Internal Edition).
