On the Patriotic Stand of Defending the Homeland and Safeguarding the Nation

(December 2, 1950)

Mr. Li Zhuchen, Chairman of the Tianjin Municipal Federation of Industry and Commerce; Mr. Bi Mingqi and Mr. Zhu Jisheng, Vice-Chairmen; and the 42,989 patriotic compatriots of the Tianjin industrial and commercial circles’ demonstration parade for resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, and defending the homeland and safeguarding the nation:

I have received your telegram of November 30 [1]. You have clearly recognized the reactionary nature of the U.S. imperialists’ aggression against China and Korea. You have not been deceived by them, nor are you afraid of their intimidation. You have firmly taken the patriotic stand of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, and defending the homeland and safeguarding the nation, and on November 30 you held a just demonstration parade. This is worthy of welcome. The U.S. imperialists have spread much deceptive propaganda against the Chinese people, and no patriot should believe these deceitful statements. The U.S. imperialists are invading Korea, invading China’s Taiwan, bombing China’s Northeast, and using various rogue methods to intimidate the Chinese people. All patriots must be determined to resist the aggression of U.S. imperialism and not be intimidated by them. The heroic actions of the Chinese People’s Volunteers in resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, and defending the homeland and safeguarding the nation, are worthy of praise. It is entirely correct for workers, peasants, intellectuals, and industrialists and merchants throughout the nation—all who are patriots—to unite as one and oppose the aggression of U.S. imperialism. I hope that all patriotic industrialists and merchants across China
