[1] Qiaomu, i.e., Hu Qiaomu, then Director of the General Administration of Press of the Central People’s Government.
[2] Refers to the letter jointly signed by Zeng Zhaolun and over 300 other Peking University faculty members in October 1950, addressed to Mao Zedong. The letter protested the U.S. imperialist war of aggression against Korea, which threatened China’s security, and expressed their resolve to contribute their utmost strength to the struggle to defend the motherland.
The letter was published in the Tianjin Progress Daily on November 3 and in the Beijing People’s Daily and Guangming Daily on November 4.
