Comments on the Publication of a Joint Letter from Peking University Faculty
Addressed to Mao Zedong
(November 3, 1950)
Qiaomu [1]:
This document [2] has already been published in Tianjin’s Progressive Daily. It would seem appropriate for Beijing’s People’s Daily and Guangming Daily to publish it as well. Please make arrangements accordingly.

Notes
[1] Qiaomu refers to Hu Qiaomu, who at that time served as Director of the General Administration of Press and Publications of the Central People’s Government.
[2] This refers to a joint letter dated October 1950, signed by over three hundred faculty members of Peking University, including Zeng Zhaolun, addressed to Mao Zedong. The letter protested the war of aggression launched by U.S. imperialism against Korea, which threatened China’s security, and expressed their resolve to devote their utmost efforts to defending the motherland. On November 3, the Tianjin Progressive Daily published this letter; on November 4, both the Beijing People’s Daily and Guangming Daily did so as well.
