Telegram to Peng Dehuai and Deng Hua〔1〕 concerning the importance of securing key high ground such as Mount Myohyang (October 21, 1950) Peng and Deng: (1) Please ensure that you secure the high ground at Mount Myohyang, Mount Paekam, and other strategic positions at the junction of South Pyongan, North Pyongan, and Hamgyong Provinces, in order to sever the enemy forces on the eastern and western fronts. It is imperative that these positions not fall into enemy hands. (2) The enemy’s direction-finding capabilities are quite accurate; please exercise heightened vigilance. (3) Reliable air-raid shelters should be rapidly constructed at Hichon or other suitable locations to safeguard the security of your command post.
