Telegram to Peng Dehuai and Deng Hua〔1〕 Regarding the Operational Deployment of the 40th Army (October 21, 1950) Peng and Deng: (1) It is now learned that the enemy’s 6th and 8th Divisions advanced on the 20th via Tokchon toward Hyokchon. (2) Whether our 40th Army can reach Tokchon ahead of the enemy in time is uncertain. If this proves impossible, it would seem advisable to set up an ambush in the vicinity of Hyokchon. Please make a decision accordingly. (3) The 42nd Army should also adhere to your original deployment. Mao Zedong, 8:00 p.m., October 21 Printed from the manuscript.
