Reply upon Receiving the Letter of Credence
(September 30, 1950)

Mr. Ambassador,

I am very pleased to accept the Letter of Credence presented by Your Excellency from the Presidium of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, and I thank Your Excellency for your warm congratulations.

Deep friendship exists between the peoples of China and Bulgaria. The heroic struggle waged by the Bulgarian people under the leadership of their great leader Dimitrov against internal and external reactionaries, as well as their present achievements in economic and cultural construction, have always been a matter of deep concern and admiration for the Chinese people. Now that the Chinese people’s revolution has been basically victorious and diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria have been established, I believe this will not only further develop and consolidate the friendship between the peoples of our two countries, but will also surely strengthen the forces of the world camp of peace and democracy.

I warmly welcome Your Excellency’s appointment as the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria to the People’s Republic of China, and I wish to render every assistance possible to Your Excellency in your work.

I sincerely wish prosperity to your country and well-being to your people, and good health to the head of your state.
