Xu Haidong, formerly served as the Commander of the 25th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, Commander of the 15th Army Corps, and Deputy Commander of the Jiangbei Headquarters of the New Fourth Army concurrently Commander of the 4th Detachment. He had been ill for a long time and was recuperating in Dalian at that time.
