Li Shuqing was a village teacher. When Mao Zedong was in the countryside, he often went to Li’s home to read and seek advice. During the Great Revolution, Li went to Guangzhou to assist Mao in running the Political Weekly, and later worked in the Committee for the Disposal of Counter-Revolutionary Property under the Hunan Provincial Peasants’ Association. After the “Ma Day Incident,” he returned to his hometown and continued teaching. After the founding of New China, he served as a member of the Hunan Provincial Cultural Relics Management Committee and a librarian at the Hunan Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History.
