Inscribing the Masthead for the *Xijiang Bao* [1]
(July 1950)

*Xijiang Bao*
The masthead of the *Xijiang Bao* inscribed by Mao Zedong.

[1] In April 1950, the Xijiang Prefectural Committee decided to found the *Xijiang Bao*. On July 1, in the name of the Xijiang Prefectural Committee, it submitted a report to the General Office of the Central Committee, requesting Mao Zedong to inscribe the masthead for the newspaper. In less than a month, a reply was received from the General Office of the Central Committee, along with Mao Zedong's inscription. This masthead has been used continuously ever since. When it was later renamed *Xijiang Ribao*, Mao Zedong's inscribed masthead was still used; the two characters "Ribao" (Daily) in the middle were borrowed from Mao Zedong's inscription of *Nanfang Ribao* (Southern Daily).
