[3] Refers to Wu Yaozong and others’ Three-Self Declaration of the Chinese Christian Church, “The Path of Endeavour of Chinese Christianity in the Construction of New China.” The declaration proposed that the basic policy of Chinese Christian churches and organizations should be: to eliminate imperialist influences within Christianity, to guard against the reactionary schemes of imperialism using religion; to cultivate the patriotic and democratic spirit of ordinary believers, and to practise self-governance, self-support, and self-propagation. This declaration was later published in *Renmin Ribao* on 23 September 1950.
