The “Report from the Michurin-Morgan Doctrines to the Question of Unity,” written on June 2, 1950, by the principal leading cadre of the Beijing Agricultural University to Liu Shaoqi, offers explanations and justifications regarding others’ reflections that he had committed errors of being crude and reckless in implementing the Party’s policy on intellectuals and in his handling of the Morganist school. Mao Zedong’s first comment was written on this report. The second comment was written on a July 5, 1950, letter from the editorial department of the *People’s Daily* to Li Weihan, to which was attached a letter from an assistant instructor at the Beijing Agricultural University reflecting problems in the work of the university’s principal leading cadre.
