Letter to Ma Xulun[1] on the Problem of Paying Attention to Students’ Health (June 19, 1950)

Minister Ma:

I am returning the document herewith. This matter should be resolved quickly. All schools must make health first and study second their guiding principle. Where nutrition is insufficient, suitable increases in funding should be arranged. Time spent on study and meetings should be greatly reduced. Sick persons should receive special treatment. Every school throughout the country should do this. The higher education conference has already been held; one session each should be held for the middle and primary levels. Please consider and handle the above as you see fit.

Sincerely,
Mao Zedong
