Letter to Mao Aigui [1]
(May 12, 1950)

Mr. Aigui:
Your letter has been received. Your elder brother Aitang [2] joined the Northern Expedition Army in 1926. I met him once in Guangdong, but never saw him again after that. Some say he has already sacrificed his life, which is a great pity. This is a sacrifice for the country, and it is an honour. I send this reply, along with wishes for
the peace and well-being of your entire family.

Mao Aigui (Mao Aigua), born in 1914, a peasant from Shaoshan Village, Shaoshan Township, Shaoshan City, Hunan Province. A clan uncle of Mao Zedong.

Aitang, namely Mao Aitang (1895–1927). Went to Guangzhou in 1925 to join the revolution and served as a staff member for the CPC Guangdong Provincial organization. Sacrificed in Wuchang, Hubei in 1927.

Li Yuanming (1895–1951), a native of Shishan Village, Yongyi Township, Shaoshan City, Hunan Province, and Mao Aigui’s brother-in-law. When Mao Zedong studied in Changsha and carried out peasant movement work in Shaoshan, the Li family provided financial support.
