the Marriage Law, and Circular of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China
Notifying the Entire Party to Guarantee Its Enforcement
(April 30, 1950)

The Marriage Law of the People's Republic of China, adopted at the Seventh Meeting of the Central People's Government Council, shall be promulgated and implemented as of May 1, 1950. From the date of its promulgation, all previously issued provisional regulations and decrees concerning marriage matters in the various liberated areas are hereby annulled. This order is hereby issued.

In April 1950, citizens of Beijing were listening to a broadcast publicizing the Marriage Law.
