Inscription for a Certain Unit of the People’s Liberation Army [I]
(April 14, 1950)
The first battle has already been won. The troops should immediately be reorganized to fight the second battle and strive for complete victory.
Mao Zedong
[I] After the founding of the new China, remnant bandits and reactionary Kuomintang forces in various places remained rampant, and the tasks of the People’s Liberation Army were still extremely arduous. On April 14, 1950, Mao Zedong wrote this inscription for a certain unit of the People’s Liberation Army, encouraging the officers and soldiers of the PLA to carry forward their past traditions and fight for comprehensive victory.
